Post How to Pull the Evo X motor in a pinch
We might have to file this under how "not" to remove your Evo X engine, as it certainly is not the ideal way to go about it.

I had to get inventive when I didn't have a good way of getting the motor out of the car, so I used the engine hoist to hoist the car.

Why couldn't it be pulled from the top if you have a picker? Just curious since I have never touched a X.

The transmission housing sits under the frame supports. Even when I tried to lower the transmission side enough to pull off, the pully side starts to smack the frame. It was close enough that I wasn't going to fight it out.
I am sure some diligence could find a way. I see most people remove all of the AC and front cowling to go that path. AMS had some videos of that.

It was more of a...
so I can drop this subframe and have the entire engine out in an hour, or I can spend 6 hours taking everything apart to try to go up.

Even the brackets that hold the front pully's are a bitch to get off in the car.

So this is why you had to get a lift...

I didn't "have" to get one. I could have just borrowed or rented time in a shop. Actually getting one was a result of my wife who coordinated with the family to get one. She is nuttier than I am.

The warranty burned up in a big fire that happened on a race track.

Sounds like a pain in the ass to pull from the top. On a side note, I have not practiced it myself but alot of people will drop the whole front of the car when removing an engine/trans. Glad you got it out none the less.
