It was a lot of work to get the final pieces in place on the car. Tim rocked out some work to make the wing pieces come together.
Chris and Sean and the Igloo dorks are about 2 hours ahead of us, but not even close to as cool looking. ;)

Apparently Stephen's car caught fire. From what I know, they were able to put it out quickly and the car is repairable but his and Tim's racing in the One Lap is done for this year.

Last I heard they were trying to arrange a trailer to get it home. I'm sure they'll update us soon.

Come home safe boys!

Tough break guys, just saw the video footage. Whoever was driving was on his toes with the fire extinguisher, that probably saved the car (Tim?).

If you guys haven't found a way to get the car home yet, let me know

Just a quick update.

It was a bad day for Evo's all around, but Steve and Tim got the worst of it. Looks like one of the oil lines misted/spewed towards the turbo side and it caught fire on the bottom half coming down the front straight. The fire melted the shifter linkages, brake master cylinder, some wiring, a couple of coils and misc stuff.

They have arranged for transport back and are headed back to Rochester today. Both Tim and Steve are fine and the car is mostly there. Just going to take a lot of elbow grease and replacement parts to get it moving again.

So shitty. At least everyone is alright and the fire was contained. I had the same thing happen on my 2g. I was lucky enough to loose the radiator and a fan.

I was able to get pictures up and a quick post from the hotel this morning. They are all on the main site.

If anybody knows of a salvaged Evo X I will be looking to strip out wiring harnesses and any other parts I can.

We spent the night working on the Igloo car to get Barry and Darren running in the event again. They suffered a cracked turbo housing, which melted a few other things like shift lines and AYC lines.

Tough break for sure. The important thing is nobody got hurt and you have a car to wrench on still.

It could of been much worse.

I'll keep my eyes and ears open for anyone parting out a X

Seriously this is such a shame, but I'm sure you guys will have no problem getting it sorted.
Time to make a custom wiring harness perhaps?

Considering the heat exiting Barry's turbo hot side that melted the shifter cables, it's a miracle that a similar fate didn't happen to his car as well. Many thanks to Steve and Tim's efforts getting their car back on the road when theirs was up in flames earlier in the day.

It still hasn't sunk in that Steve's car burned up like that but over the next 2 weeks I know every effort will be made to get it back in fighting shape for Watkins Glen.
